I am tired of apps, bluetooth, syncing, etc. and I was just looking for something basic to track my steps each day. I was super excited about this affordable pedometer after seeing a lot of good reviews, but I’ve found it a little frustrating. The first one I received was in pristine condition, but the battery compartment was SO tight it could not be budged or opened at all. I can’t remember if I ever even turned it on, because I exchanged it due to knowing I’d never be able to change the battery when necessary. The second one I received had clearly been opened before, evident by tears where the flap at the top of the box tucks in. I couldn’t tell if it had actually been used or not, but it appeared clean and seemed to work so I decided to keep it. I used it for a few days and was really liking it, but soon noticed it was resetting itself to zero in the middle of the day without me pressing the button. The first time it happened, I assumed it was a fluke, but it’s an ongoing issue. I now find that I’m trying to look at it throughout the day and make a mental note of how many steps it says so I can add the steps in my head when it inevitably zeroes itself out, which it now does several times each day. Honestly, it’s become an annoyance, and my memory and attention span aren’t good enough to add up the steps all day long and try to compensate for it repeatedly resetting.
If it weren’t for the zero issue, I’d like it. I usually wear it on my ankle or at my waist, and it counts pretty accurately as long as you don’t take a few tiny steps at a time without surpassing the 10 step minimum for it to register. For example, if I water the garden and I’m moving around a good bit without stopping, it will register many steps. However if I were weeding in the garden, moving only a few steps at a time and stopping frequently, it would not register as many steps due to the frequent stopping before hitting the 10 step minimum (even if I took the same number of steps). It also seems to work on the elliptical, but for some reason it doesn’t count accurately on the elliptical when I wear it at my ankle. It does count elliptical strides for me if I wear it at my waist.
UPDATE: I originally thought the new battery that arrived in the unit would be sufficient, but after seeing it mentioned in another review, I changed to a totally fresh name-brand battery and this seems to have fixed the random resetting issue. To the seller’s credit, they reached out to me several times after I posted my original review and were very proactive about trying to make things right with a refund or replacement. I didn’t find that necessary, but I appreciate it. It seems to be working well now, and I’d recommend it as a simple, low-tech alternative to all the apps, trackers, and whatnot.
